This Christmas, Organoke was back for an alternative carol service. Instead of Silent Night, and Away In A Manger we had Slade’s “Merry Christmas Everyone” and George Michael’s “Last Christmas”. Check out a video of here.
Ida Barr was back in all her faded Edwardian grandeur to host the evening and as usual got everyone dancing in the aisles! There’s lots of pictures here on Instagram. Thanks to all who helped in any way. Organoke will return!
Here’s what our first summer 2016 Organoke looked like:
Organoke – karaoke on a church organ. A world first at St Giles’ in the summer of 2016!
The idea behind organoke was to use our church organ in a really unique way – and get the local community to come along for the ride.
With a fully stocked bar, an army of volunteers, the awesome Jordana Leighton, a few microphones, the amazing Ida Barr (Kitt Green) as M.C. and a few musician friends of Ashley the organist – we did just that!
Dancing in the aisles, classics by Madonna and Dolly Parton, amazing solos worthy of an X Factor final – just a few of the happenings on that night. And talk about volume – never before in living memory has the organ of St Giles’ been completely drowned out by singing!
Local reaction on the ground was amazing – thanks for all the tweets, photographs, status updates and messages. Organoke was the opening night of the Camberwell Arts Festival – it was a great way to start. Organoke will return!
