Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday on the 25th of March and ends with the festivities of Easter Day on the 1st of April.
Along with Christmas, St Giles’ Choir are at their busiest during this period, singing a range of music to accompany the Easter story. As well as our Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday 10 am services, the choir will be leading music on Maundy Thursday at 7.30pm and at our Good Friday Liturgy service at 2pm.
The Good Friday service is probably our most challenging musically, as the choir will be singing a 25 minute passion with soloists along with Farrant’s ‘Call to Remembrance’ as an introit.
After Easter we traditionally have a well-earned rest, but this time we’re going to be busy supporting ex-Morland camp choristers from across London on Saturday 7th April. The plan is to sing Vespers at St George’s Catholic Cathedral in Southwark. It will be a really special occasion – check out our Facebook Events page here for updates on this and other events.
Happy New Year and thanks to everyone who has joined us in St Giles’ to hear or perform music in 2017.
We had a really busy end to the year with Christmas Organoke and St Giles’ Carol Service both happening in the same weekend! There’s lots of pics of Organoke here and tickets are already on sale for our Organoke Royal Wedding Special on Saturday 19th May. St Giles’ choir worked really hard during the Advent and Christmas period and our Carol by Candlelight Service went so well – here’s a clip from YouTube – there’s more here.
Camberwell Community Choir were busy performing at Camberwell Arts Market, Lyndhurst Primary School Winter Fair and of course Carols ’round Camberwell which raised money for Health Poverty Action. The Crooked Well Pub captured the moment the choir sang an impromptu rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ to a customer after singing ‘Have yourself a merry little Christmas’.
2018 will be a fun year of music-making at St Giles’ Thank you for your support and see you soon!
