The last few years have seen some amazing performances at St Giles’ and our summer series 2019 was no exception!
Organoke #7 kicked things off in style with a packed church singing karaoke classics. Then, with a definite focus on local talent, we were delighted to welcome an eclectic mix of solo performers and groups every Wednesday night for a month. All the concerts were donation-only events and all the funds raised have gone towards the upkeep and preservation of our very special building.
At the end of the series, we hosted a very special event..
‘Camberwell Beauty’ played to a full church packed with modern day Camberwellians, eager to find out more about the history of our amazing locality. A celebration of all things Camberwell, it was a wonderful way to spend a midsummer evening enjoying readings and music, much of it inspired by writers and artists who have lived in, or been inspired by Camberwell, from John Ruskin and Robert Browning to Muriel Spark and Jenny Eclair.
We even managed to convince members of THE ARCHERS to leave Ambridge for the night and come to SE5; Carole Boyd, who plays Lynda Snell, James Cartwright who plays P.C. Burns and Louiza Patikas and Annabelle Dowler, who play Helen and Kirsty.
The combination of local creativity, the beautiful surroundings of the church on a midsummer evening and some very familiar Radio 4 voices, made for an electric and eclectic evening.
Thank you to everyone who was able to help us put on this amazing variety of concerts in any way.
