St Giles’ tries to be a welcoming, inclusive and friendly church. We’re also a very musical one!
On Tuesdays, Camberwell Community Choir rehearses in the St Giles’ Centre and regularly performs in church. On Fridays, live Jazz is performed in the crypt, attracting over 100 punters each week. On Saturdays, Camberwell Choir School meets in the church hall. Set up by a previous vicar of St Giles’, the Choir School is an amazing Camberwell Institution and has music sessions for children of all ages. Finally, St Giles’ Choir sings in church each Sunday morning, leading worship for the parish.
The last few years have seen some amazing performances at St Giles’. The church choir sang and the bell ringers rang when the Olympic flame passed by the church. The community choir is becoming famous for scaring people by providing accompaniment to scary films on Halloween. Our concert series has seen orchestras, octets, choirs, humorous funerary violins…, steel pans, Brazilian café music duos and barbershop quartets perform in a month long celebration of music held every year. And at the end of the year, Carols ’round Camberwell brings everyone together with an opportunity to play and sing carols in our local community.
This site will keep you up to date with all the latest musical goings on and bring you news about all the individuals, groups and organisations who make music here.
